The first chapter didn't really pull me in right away. But the 2nd chapter was a bit more interesting. Still not crazy exciting yet, but I'm only 2 chapters in.

If Carlos was a candle, Alba was the shadow it cast. Always a step behind, flickering with unease at his every move.

I am now fully invested in this story. It took like 4 chapters to truly peak my interest and throw some mystery into the plot line. But now I wanna know what will happen.

I really like how they make the possession subtle and show how it slowly takes over, and its not immediate. That even the host doesn't know what's happening to her at first.

So far I am really enjoying the book. I still have questions that I'm excited to see the answer or reveal for. For example, why was Alba left in the mines as a baby? They kind of say why but I want to know more. Also, I really want Albá to be with Elias, not Carlos. Carlos and his family all seem like buttheads, and Albá's family is no better! Her parents or adopted parents are horrible, the mom is anyways. The dad doesn't seem too bad, mainly just oblivious. The priest is also an interesting character. Im Curtis to see what happens with him as well, so far he's been helpful, but I feel like he has some secret motive.

Darkness curled at the corners of her vision. With a soft sigh, Alba the woman, Alba the soul, Alba, who had battled and bathed and borne this body all her life, released her hold on its reins.

Review

This book was brilliant, once again i love the historical context mixed with a paranormal thriller! She just does it so beautifully. I loved the story, the ups and downs. The ending was done brilliantly, lots of twists and turns, I like how the ending was left to let me think a bit and come up with a conclusion.

The characters themselves I loved. There were characters I hatedddd like Carlos and Bartolome, and of course Alba I loved, and Elias. I felt connected to them, as if they were real people. Which is sometimes hard to get from books.

The possession starts slowly, and then full on exorcist happens, I wasn't sure at first if it was gonna be bad, but it did not disappoint. I also really love that it showed her point of view of being possessed. I found it really interesting, and a fun angle.

Although it wasn't my favorite of all her books, it was still brilliant. I have already pre-ordered her new book coming out in September!
